The crew of division 1 winners Global hard at work. Despite the challenge mounted by visiting boats who, according to Mackenzie have traditionally seized a good share of the spoils, Waikawa boats prevailed across all four divisions. Sunday dawned sunny, and with a northerly breeze filled in across the course, the race management team were able to get through a challenging programme of five races across the divisions. In the final tally, David Grigg’s Beneteau Global took the contest in Division 1. Grigg gave credit for the win to “a top notch crew from Auckland”, and said he was extremely impressed with how the event was run.

Tale of two police encounters shows racism
It’s a tale of two police confrontations within days of each other in central Ohio. In the first, an Ohio State Highway Patrol officer stops a vehicle for speeding on I-71 in Delaware County north of Columbus. The driver, Merak Burr, a white male, becomes argumentative.
Backup arrives from Genoa Township police, and the officers discover Burr has a gun in view on the front seat. The officers, with guns drawn, order the man out of the car. Burr resists repeatedly and becomes increasingly more belligerent and more threatening as the officers demand he exit the vehicle.
