Madame Chakwera to Empower Women With Infertility

Blantyre, April 29, Mana: First Lady, Madam, Monica Chakwera said she was determined to advance efforts to address infertility among women and support girls aspirations in education in the country.
She made the remarks on Thursday when she presided over Merck More Than a Mother Media Recognition Awards Presentation to three Malawian journalists at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre.
The journalists include Memory Kutengule Chatonda for Malawi News Agency (Mana) who won in Print Category, Happy Njalammano, Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBC) for online category and Linda Banda for Chanco Radio who emerged winner on radio category.
COVID 19, had had an “unthinkable toll on our lives” and it has been realized the world over that the health systems were simply not ready for a pandemic of such magnitude. We all know this is by no means the last pandemic. There will be future pandemics and we have to be prepared urged H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Ghana s First Lady and an ambassador of Merck More Than a Mother.
The First Lady was speaking at the opening ceremony of Merck Foundation s 8th Africa Asia Luminary which was held via zoom on Tuesday, 27th April 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The annual conference was on the theme: “Together we can make a Difference”

BLANTYRE, April 28, Mana: MERCK foundation Chief Executive Officer Dr Rasha Kelej has commended media fraternity for playing a significant role to sensitize communities on adverse effects of stigma against couples with infertility condition.
Dr Kelej who is also the President of Merck More Than a Mother, made the remarks ahead of Merck Foundation Media Health Training on Thursday organized on the sideline of the eighth edition of Merck Foundation Africa, Asia luminary online video conference.
Over 32,000 participants from various countries converged online to discuss strategies and solutions for equitable healthcare solutions as well as define interventions to break the stigma around infertility and to support girl education as ambassadors of Merck Foundation More Than a Mother campaign.
The annual conference but for the COVID-19 pandemic would have been held in Zambia. Nonetheless, the President of Zambia, H.E. Edgar Chagwa Lungu inaugurated the 8th edition of Merck Foundation Africa Asia Luminary via zoom. The theme was “together we can make a Difference”
