GrabPay DuitNow QR provides seamless access to everyday essential and retail needs
MANY of us have embraced online shopping and contactless payments in store as we abide by the strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) and physical distancing.
Echoing this, a Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) report, the volume of ewallet payments have increased by 131% since 2019. Furthermore, it found that the number of merchants who registered for QR code payment acceptance has risen by 164% since 2019, indicating that businesses are accepting for cashless payments.
Meanwhile, Grab – through its in-app wallet GrabPay – recently rolled out the GrabPay DuitNow QR nationwide. Operated by Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet), DuitNow QR is designed to encourage nationwide adoption of cashless payments and the digital economy through the use of an interoperable QR code.

GrabPay, the in-app wallet of super app Grab, has rolled out the GrabPay DuitNow QR in Malaysia.
According to the press release, DuitNow QR is operated by Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet), and is designed to encourage nationwide adoption of cashless payments and the digital economy through the use of an interoperable QR code. Therefore, DuitNow QR will provide consumers with a safe, easy payment method for in-store purchases, and give merchants access to the millions of consumers who have adopted the digital-first lifestyle.
The initiative comes as many Malaysians adopted contactless payments during the pandemic. According to a report by Bank Negara Malaysia, the volume of e-wallet payments have increased by 131% since 2019. Consequently, the national QR code will make it even easier for consumers to shop safely, reducing physical contact and saving shoppers

The GrabPay e-wallet is now integrated with DuitNow QR, enabling consumers to use the app at any merchant which supports the national QR standard.

For those who still don’t know, DuitNow QR is simply designed to integrate merchants into a single, massive ecosystem so that they can receive payments from any participating bank or e-wallet. It operates under Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) Interoperable Credit Transfer Framework (ICTF).
To use GrabPay’s DuitNow QR feature, you just need launch the Grab app, open the QR scanner, and scan any DuitNow QR code to pay. With Grab’s Merchant Discovery, GrabRewards, and Save with Points features, users can also identify GrabPay DuitNow Preferred Merchants, earn points, and save money on every transaction. This could mean earning up to three times (3X) the GrabRewards points and using them to redeem discounts.
