This program explores the people, places and flavor of the blues music scene in Albuquerque, as told by leading Duke City blues musicians and former KUNM blues deejays. Often overlooked in the international blues world, Albuquerque has spawned a significant and uniquely New Mexican blues music community in recent decades.
The program series features rare recordings from early 1970s KUNM shows and live music venues. Hear about legendary blues venues including the Thunderbird Bar in Placitas, Okie s bar across from UNM and El Madrid. Featuring Cadillac Bob s Joan Cere, Native bluesman Roger Cultee, Rudy Jaramillo, Sherri Gonzales, Raven Rutherford, J.D. Sipe of the Memphis P. Tails, and others.

Chicago, Memphis, and the Mississippi Delta are places associated with blues music. Rooted in the African American experience, the blues gained wide popularity and inspired musicians and music scenes around the world. Playing the Burque Blues is a two-part series of radio programs that explores the unwritten history of the often-overlooked blues scene in Albuquerque, which spawned a significant and creatively New Mexican blues music community in recent decades.
The first program, featuring Joan Cere, Roger Cultee and Rudy Jaramillo of the Rudy Boy Experiment will on KUNM 89.FM on Saturday, May 8, at 7 pm. The second program is scheduled for Tuesday, May 18, at 9 pm. The programs can also be heard live on the World Wide Web at kunm.org and will be available on KUNM s two-week archive accessible on the station s website.

Though COVID-19 vaccination appointments are becoming more widely available by the day, scheduling a dose can still be a tricky task. Depending on where you live, it might be easier for you to get vaccinated if you cross state lines. Some Southeast Michiganders have gone to get their vaccines in Ohio, where at the moment supply seems to be outpacing demand.
Dr.
Daniel Cadigan, medical director for the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department, says he’s not entirely sure why some Michiganders have found it easier to get vaccinated in Ohio than in Michigan. But, he adds, getting shots in arms in order to slow the spread of COVID-19 can be approached as a regional effort.
