A Vallejo man was one of six inmates at the Merced County jail who, using a rope made from braided prison sheets, scaled a 20-foot wall and escaped into downtown Merced late Saturday evening, authorities said.
The escapees remain at large including Manuel Allen Leon, 21, of Vallejo, who had been in jail since June on charges including assault with a firearm. Some of the other escapees were in jail on charges including murder and attempted murder.
