Saarani: Alternative expressway proposed by a private firm to divert traffic

IPOH: The state government has received a suggestion from a private company to construct an alternative expressway to Kuala Kangsar, says Mentri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad. Saarani said the construction company had proposed that the expressway be constructed from Gopeng to Kuala Kangsar to avoid passing through the Menora Tunnel. “The proposed expressway will be able to divert traffic during peak season or when there is an accident near the tunnel. “For the proposal to go through, the company will have to look for their own funds, as well as to seek permission from the federal government first, ” he told a press conference after launching a logo for the state Women and Community Development secretariat at the state secretariat building here on Wednesday (March 17).

Covid-19: Perak MB says 19 clusters still active in the state

These clusters had still recorded cases over the past 14 days, he added. “Since the pandemic hit our country, a total of 43 clusters have been detected in the state with 19 remaining active. “Until Feb 14, Perak has recorded at least 7,393 cases with 36 deaths, he said in a statement after attending a meeting with the Covid-19 Emergency Management Technical Committee here on Monday (Feb 15). The meeting was also attended by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Public Service Dept director Tan Sri Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman and Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. Saarani said that during the third wave of Covid-19 affecting the country since September, Perak recorded a total of 7,124 cases or 96.4% of the state s collective cases.
