Just when you think Mentone can’t get any neater, along comes a new opportunity for the Lookout Mountain community to show off with another creative venue.
The Little River Arts Council and the Mentone Educational Resources Foundation (MERF) are sponsoring a âFollow Your Artâ event on Saturday, September 4 at the MERF House walking track in Mentone. LRAC is currently accepting applications for vendors and looks forward to featuring a mix of established artists and newcomers.
The event will take place September 4, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Pathway to Community beside the MERF House on Highway 117. Vendors will set up between 8-10 a.m. A limited number of spaces are available, and thanks to funding from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, there is no booth fee.
The DeKalb County Board of Education on Thursday heard from Moon Lake Elementary School local officials and residents regarding the closing of the school due to low enrollment and financial hardships.
DeKalb County Board of Education Chairman Randy Peppers said it was evident with all the emails and feedback the board received from the community that Mentone loves Moon Lake Elementary School.
âWeâve read them all and everything is taken into consideration,â he said
Moon Lake Elementary School Principal Mary Lance addressed the board, dotting the staff s hard work and the support of the community who have worked hard to make Moon Lake a success.
