On April 30, with support from the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority, Lac Seul First Nation leadership declared a COVID-19 outbreak in the community with 8 total cases. That total increased to 11 cases by May 1.

As of Sunday May 2, there were at least 16 confirmed positive cases. All residents are asked to only leave their homes for essential reasons like groceries, medical appointments or to get a COVID-19 vaccine. There’s also limited access in and out of the community, with exceptions for food delivery and emergency services. By declaring a State of Emergency, this will allow the community to gain access to additional assistance and resources.
