The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office said Mena Kamel, 33, and Marina Zaki, 28, are facing four counts of assault and 14 of criminal mistreatment. All of the accusations are linked to the parents failing to provide their children with food or adequate medical care. The investigation began in late June after police and medics came to their Gresham home to attend to one of the children, who had suffered a critical injury. According to court documents, starvation, malnourishment, and criminal mistreatment occurred between Sept. 1, 2018 and June 27, 2020. This investigation began on June 27, 2020 when one of the children suffered a critical injury that prompted a law enforcement and medical response to a home on the 16400 block of East Burnside in Gresham.
