hello, everyone. welcome to cnn newsroom. victor is off today. the family of tyre nichols is urging piece today after the video of his beating death is released to the public. five officers have been charged. they ve all been released on roughly $250,000 bond. this afternoon, his mother had this message for them. i just want to ask for prayer for my family, for this whole community. and i want to say to the five police officers that murdered my son, you also disgraced your own families when you did this. but you know what? i m going to pray for you and your families. nicoles was pulled over on january 7th allegedly for reckless driving. but the memphis police chief says she does not see evidence of that yet. a warning now, this picture is graphic. the chief also does not yet know what sparked this brutal beating of nicoles that followed the police chase and caught on several cameras. she says she could not bear to watch the video but did see the aftermath of what her so

our top story tonight, murder charges in the death of tyre nichols, five former police officers now in custody as prosecutors lay out their case for the public. cnn s don lemon is on the ground for us in memphis. don, each of these men now facing several very, very serious criminal charges including second-degree murder, you re there on the scene talking to a lot of folks. give us the latest. reporter: extremely serious charges, second-degree murder as you said, wolf, aggravated assault. aggravated kidnapping which is an interesting one. official misconduct and official oppression. those are the charges that could land these officers in jail for a very long time if they are found guilty in a court of law. now, the director of the tennessee bureau of investigation, david roush, he held a press conference with the district attorney here saying according to david roush that he found what the officers actions as to what he saw in the videotape sickening. watch this. simply p
hello and welcome to the programme. tyre nichols, was a 29 year old black man. a father, a fedex employee, a keen skateboarder. three weeks ago, he was pulled over by the memphis police on suspicion of reckless driving. there was a confrontation after which tyre fled. and what happened next defies belief. five memphis police officers, who are also black, chased him down just 80 yards short of his mother s front door, they beat tyre so badly that, three days later, he died from his injuries. i am going to show you a picture of what tyre looked like before he died. just a warning it is hard to look at. the coroner said he had suffered excessive bleeding caused by a severe beating . the family have been shown the body cam footage. while each of the five individuals played a different role in the incident in question, the actions of all of them resulted in the death of tyre nichols, and they are all responsible. reverend al sharpton has spoken with the family and will deliver th
