Good morning morning. Welcome to the center for American Progress action fund. I am the executive and really thank you so much for joining us today for an exciting event on womens leadership. We have arrived at a moment that has the potential to be a pivotal time for women in american politics. In the past six months we have had the first female candidate from a Major Political party run for the presidency of the United States and win the popular vote by a margin of nearly 3 million people. With some pretty grim numbers occupying less than 25 of elected offices at all levels of government. We witnesses a women led of outpour and since then, we have seen a massive up surge in the number of women who were coming forward to run for Political Office. More than 11,000 women have approached emilys list to discuss their interest in running for office compared to only 900 in the 2016 election cycle. Where do we go from here . Yesterday, we marked his 100th birthday. We are a National Civil rights organization, nonprofit. We work on issues such as voting right, criminal justice, education and fair housing issues, all across the country. We mount litigation and our goal is to move our country closer to equally and combat the discrimination that we wrestle ith in so many places today. Rights legislation that became law while i was 9 years old, yeah, that was a signal. It was optimism. It was a promise that you could do all the things that my parents told us we ocould do anything. They mistakenly told the doctors that as well as the sons so we took them at their word. As a result, you saw laws and barriers falling as you went along. You came away from that hopeful and optimistic about the possibilities. And looking back over this period, civil rights law, brown in 54, 55, all these things, have these turned out the way you thought at the time theyd turn out . Yes. Have they accomplished what at the time you may have thought they would . Yes in terms of they provided access. I never had to doubt whether i was going to be able to apply to any college i wanted to apply to. It never occurred to me that i would be denied Something Like that education because of limitations that were put in place by law. All that was done, all that was sealed. It never does it mean that i
