thanks for joining us this hour. really happy to have you here. we have an interesting show tonight, and i m particularly glad you are here for it. we will go a ways back when allied soldiers came ashore on the coast of france on the beaches of normandy for the d- day invasion. they opened up a new western front against the nazis in europe , a shock to the germans. the operation, the d-day invasion relied on the element of surprise. and the germans really were shocked. they had been occupying france for four years at that point. they installed a collaborationist regime that they assembled from pro-fascist and pro-nazi organizations. there was a french resistance to the nazi rule and collaborationist s, but the nazis and their puppets you know, were definitely in charge. they were heading into year five of being in charge. they were really settled in, in france. and then, here comes this shock arrival, this invasion, ultimately millions of allied troops, landing on the beaches

Danny savage reports from the yorkshire dales. Across large parts of britain at the moment there is a lack of water. A dry spring, preceded by low winter rainfall, has left many riverbeds exposed. This wouldnt be an unusual widespread sight in late summer but its rare in may. When i had a ride around up there on friday, you get a lot of small ponds and wet holes that are usually there all year round. Theyre all dried out, theyre absolutely bone dry, theres nothing at all in the bottom of them. Stuart herd has farmed here all his life. The Riverbed Drying Up is not unheard of but hes noticed the Hillside Springs arent right. You can tell that its been a lot drier because were actually noticing sheep that have come down to parts of the river where the water is still running, Noticing Sheep Standing on the river bank drinking. Whereas ordinarily they would be spread about up on these fells and drinking out of Little Springs and streams and things like that, which suggests there isnt as mu
Northern ireland and south western scotland. The rain will be heavy across the hills. A wet morning. The rain pushes through in Northern Ireland as well. It is wet across the lake district, into North Western england and wales. Plenty of rain in the south west and central and southern england. It is not quite raining in kent and sussex, through east anglia, but eventually, the second half of the morning, most of the uk is involved with the cloud, and it will be damp.
