COVID-19 Funeral Costs
Did someone in your family die due to COVID-19 and you have unexpected funeral costs? The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is offering to help pay for funeral costs incurred by the pandemic. If you didnât have funds such as insurance to cover funeral expenses for a COVID-19 death, you can apply for up to the maximum amount of $9,000 per funeral.
The program is still being set up, and a toll-free 800 number will become available soon. One applicant will be able to apply for multiple deceased individuals, up to a total of $35,000. Youâll need to provide documentation: a death certificate citing COVID-19 as a contributing cause of death in the U.S., receipts from the funeral home or cemetery, and proof of funds received from various sources.
