VADO – There was not a dry eye from those in attendance at San Jose Cemetery as Jose Garcia was lowered into his grave.
His wife, Genoveva Garcia, rode in the pickup truck that carried Jose s casket during the procession, reluctantly getting up after her family coerced her when they arrived at the cemetery south of Las Cruces.
Genoveva sobbed loudly alongside all nine of her children while singing in Spanish along with the band that played off to the side during the burial.
The Garcias two daughters who live out of state, Sandra and Corina, both came to town for the service. Others watched the mass at San Jose Catholic Church and the following burial at San Jose Cemetery via Zoom.

VADO – The Garcia family gathers in the home their father, Jose Garcia, built with his own two hands on Wednesday to honor their loved one who this week lost his battle with COVID-19.
Jose passed away the night of Tuesday, Dec. 15 after being sedated and ventilated for over a month.
The 68-year-old farmworker was admitted to Memorial Medical Center on Nov. 6 and since then only one family member has been able to have physical contact with him his daughter Carolina Garcia, who has been a nurse at MMC for 12 years.
