The past 10 years alone are impressive. It is showing up allaround the city as you drive through. Everything from the Veterans War Memorial building and this building and all around. We want to make that part of the discussion that happens there. We talk about the work we have to do. We want to say thanks to the citizens that we have been able to get the funding to make it all happen. Thank you. Probably the most common question i have been asked over the last six weeks. This happens before the earthquake anniversary how much better prepared are we than we were 30 years ago . The answer is much better prepared. That is in great part to the folks here but also the people of San Francisco who have supported all of this work. However, that doe does not meant we can sit back and think everything is okay. These opportunities are helpful and we want to encourage everyone to stay on their toes here and remember it is important if you can prepare, take some measures that you do so. There are m
Getting to zero h. I. V. Infections in San Francisco. I am just really delighted that we in San Francisco, since the 1980s, have been at the forefront of pushing for innovative ways to change policies, new sciences and technologies to help us get to this milestone that we are so excited about today. We are showing progress, real progress, in fact. In 2018 for the first time ever, not only have we dropped diagnosis by 13 , but we have finally seen this number go below 200 for the first time ever. That is significant. [ applause ]. Mayor breed its progress that we should all be so proud of. This shows that when we Work Together with the community, with our policy makers, with our Public Health experts, our nonprofits, we can truly make a difference and save peoples lives. Im particularly proud of the department of Public Health. They continue to show their commitment to innovative and groundbreaking health solutions. Miles per hour at my house. Why are you shutting down the power . Beep because the humidity may be in the low digits. That means 50 Miles Per Hour may not be far away from me. You know how fast he can travel so thats why. And that very low humidity means the fire can spread quickly. We are bone dry. The soil was bone dry. We have a wind advisory that just started at 6 00 from the north and east bay above 1000 feet and you could get gusts up to 65 Miles Per Hour. Closer to the surface anywhere from 40 45 is likely. It is one of those days that reminds me of being in the News Business when there is big news going on and people will be tuning in for updates on a lot of things. There is also a lot of debate going on right now on whether what pg e is doing on these power shutoffs is really the right thing to do. Some people say yes based on what we have experienced over the last couple of years in the bay area. And some people say no its not worth it. 95 of most wildfires start because of a human, throwing out a cigarette or whatever it is. That debate will continue. Right now we do know that 186,000 pg e customers have no power in the bay area.
