Walkouts staged by trainee doctors in protest at the government’s plan to increase the number of medical students are showing signs of spreading to all doctor groups, including medical school graduates and professors.
The government and doctors are in a fierce standoff over two pivotal questions: whether the country is experiencing a shortage of doctors, and whether the government s decision to increase the annual enrollment quota at medical schools by 2,000 slots next year is justified.
Tensions between doctors and the government over a plan to increase the medical school quota reached another level, Monday, as the doctors group began an in-house vote on whether to hold another massive strike to protest the government’s plan.
