The Kiwanis Club of Stuttgart will hold its annual Radiothon this Friday, June 11, taking over the Country 97.3/Country 106.9 FM airwaves to raise funds to help local organizations.
Chairman of the Radiothon Committee Rebecca Seyller said funds raised on Friday during the “Better When We are Back Together” Radiothon will support youth programs.
“We do give about 12 scholarships or more each year to seniors graduating from high school. We give money to (Stuttgart) Parks and Recreation, Easter Seals, and a backpack program that helps feed kids on the weekend at Park Avenue Elementary. We do a lot of work with ICCM Food Bank and many, many more,” Seyller said.

The Kiwanis Club of Flagler County made a second presentation of Stuffed Bears to Sheriff Rick Staly on Tuesday (Dec. 14).
The Club’s signature project “Bears-on-Patrol” was initiated in October 2019 to equip every Flagler County Law Enforcement vehicle with a supply of stuffed bears for officers to use when responding to calls ranging from traffic accidents, fires, and crime scenes, to domestic issues where a child is in a distressful situation and needs comfort and security. The gift of a bear from the officer helps in establishing trust and a friendly relationship with the child.
Lafayette Kiwanis and LPSS Give Bicycles to Encourage Reading
The Lafayette Parish School System has partnered with the Kiwanis Club of Lafayette on a mission to get children to read more books. This initiative will give incentives to students in a new way. Pre-pandemic the children were encouraged through the Accelerated Reader program at school with librarians and teachers offering prizes and parties as an incentive. Obviously, the pandemic restrictions prevent that from happening now.
Luckily for our kiddos, the Kiwanis Club of Lafayette is helping in a big way. They are donating prizes such as new bicycles at each of the 25 schools in Lafayette Parish School System, according to KATC. Members of the Kiwanis Club personally donated money so each school could get two bicycles. That’s 50 bikes total.
