Contributed Members of the Jefferson County Veterans Association, supported by Friendship Park employees, are sprucing up the JCVA Military Park in Smithfield for the association’s Memorial Day program by removing two earth and wooden bunkers in disrepair. Also on the JCVA agenda is repairing, scraping and painting the Vietnam-era observation plane, nicknamed “The Duck,” seen in the background of the photo, and painting the shelter located between the Military Park and Memorial Wall that is comprised of 888 bricks engraved with the names of veterans remembered by family and friends. The JCVA is seeking assistance from anyone interested in volunteering to restore “The Duck.” For information, call Frank Santa, commander, at (740) 769-2622 and leave a name and number for a return call.
