Sitka Assembly discusses hospital property RFP

Sitka Assembly discusses hospital property RFP Posted by Katherine Rose | May 5, 2021 The Sitka Assembly last week (4-29-21) continued discussing the possible sale of the former Sitka Community Hospital property. But a key piece of information was still missing– just how much the property is worth. The assembly scheduled the meeting to have an open discussion about the “request for proposals” the city will soon issue to seek bidders on the property.  The hospital business was sold to SEARHC in 2018, with a deal to lease the property to house long-term care. SEARHC expressed interest in purchasing the building last fall. This spring, the assembly directed city administrator John Leach to draft an RFP, and last month it held two town halls to hear public input on the possible property sale.

Assembly wants valuation before selling former Sitka hospital building

Assembly wants valuation before selling former Sitka hospital building Posted by Katherine Rose | Apr 15, 2021 The Sitka Assembly is not quite ready to sell the former Sitka Community Hospital building not yet, anyway. But some assembly members noted some key information that was still missing from the document   a property value appraisal.  Member Thor Christianson said without

City seeking a new batch of marine haulout proposals

City seeking a new batch of marine haulout proposals Posted by Katherine Rose | Jan 28, 2021 After delaying the decision for over a month, when the Sitka Assembly met on Tuesday (1-26-21), it took another step toward its goal to develop a marine haulout at the Gary Paxton Industrial Park. For the next two months it will be seeking a developer to privately fund the haulout project–but that now comes with a stop-gap if the developer wants to purchase city-owned property outright. The Sitka Assembly and the industrial park board have pushed to build a marine haulout at the park over the last year. But they’ve hit some snags along the way. A haulout is necessary for Sitka’s fishing fleet, and after Halibut Point Marine announced it would soon shut down its haulout operation, many called for the city to fund a shipyard.
