Witness Locrisia Goliath (36) took the stand on Wednesday, 28 April, after advocate Susana Kuun, for the defence, told the court about new developments in the trial of Melvin Volkwyn, accused of murdering Orderick Lucas in March 2019 in Kleinvlei outside Cape Town.
The state contends the deceased was last seen alive in the presence of the accused. The boy went missing on 25 March 2019, but was only reported missing on 28 March. His body was found on 2 April in a stormwater drain in Kleinvlei.

A South African court started hearing evidence on the medical history of Orderick Lucas, the toddler who was discovered dead in a storm drain more than a year ago with all of his teeth ripped out using pliers. Kids who were looking for a lost ball stumbled upon the ghastly sight of the toddler s decomposing and maggot-filled body.
Investigators said that the 22-month-old toddler s body was so severely decomposed that it was hard to determine the cause of death. The Sun reported that local authorities investigating the case said that Lucas teeth appear to have been ripped out using pliers days before his death.

According to his medical records, he had an array of ailments in the months leading up to his death.
The little boy s birth had also not been registered.
Malnutrition, ulcers on his genitals and mouth, a broken arm and septic sores – these were among the ailments for which young Orderick Lucas was treated in the less than two years he was alive.

Volkwyn was a friend of Orderick s mother, Davidene.
He gave the little boy back to his mother - this was the only explanation given by child murder accused Melvyn Volkwyn when his trial for the murder of one-year-old Orderick Lucas commenced in the Western Cape High Court on Monday.
Volkwyn and his former friend Davidene Lucas faced off on Day 1 of proceedings, with Lucas maintaining that Volkwyn had never handed her son back to her two years ago.
