Ten years ago: sub-postmaster Robin Garbutt sentenced to life in prison

LOOKING BACK Police officers at the scene in Melsonby, North Yorkshire, where Diana Garbutt was killed by her husband Picture: PAUL KINGSTON / NNP TEN years ago, this week, Robin Garbutt told the same ludicrous story from beginning to end in attempt to get away with murder, a judge said. The sub-postmaster was found guilty of murdering his wife Diana in the flat above Melsonby post office, which they ran together. Sentencing the 45-year-old to life in prison, Mr Justice Openshaw said the defendant had shown no regret or remorse over her death. He said: Having armed himself with a bar he must have waited until Diana was asleep in bed and, in the early hours of the morning, crept silently into the bedroom.
