Melrose celebrates local women during National Women s History Month
Christina Rasmussen / melrose@wickedlocal.com
March officially kicks off National Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate women and the many contributions they have made to society throughout the years.
What began as a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California is now a major movement spread across several countries. Not only are the achievements of women celebrated, but schools, universities, and local governments take the time to look at equality and opportunities for women and educate others on women’s history.
The theme for Women’s History Month in 2021 captures the spirit of these challenging times during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Since the women’s suffrage centennial celebrations scheduled for 2020 were cancelled, the theme was extended for 2021 to “Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced.”
