Updated February 18, 2021 8:59pm The Department of Health (DOH) Region 7 on Thursday announced that the Philippine Genome Center (PGC) detected two coronavirus “mutations of concern” in samples from Cebu. DOH 7 spokesperson Dr. Mary Jean Loreche said 37 of 50 samples sequenced by the PGC showed the mutations E484K and N501Y in SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). She added that 29 out of the 50 samples had a co-occurrence of the two mutations. “These two mutations of concern are actually of global concern also. Hindi siya atin lang talaga. This is of global concern because, apparently, these are the mutations that are related to increased transmissibility,” she said in a briefing.

+ February 20, 2021 THE national government might step in again and tighten community quarantine restrictions in Cebu City to tame the surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, retired general Melquiades Feliciano said Friday, Feb. 19, 2021.
Feliciano said this will depend on the Covid-19 situation next week, when the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases is expected to recommend the new quarantine classifications for the month of March.
Cebu City is under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), the least restrictive form, until Feb. 28.
Cases of infection, however, have exceeded 100 a day since Jan. 28, and surpassed 200 a day five times in February, based on Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH 7) data.

CEBU Seares: Politics aside, questions on (1) Cebu City mayor s health, impact on Covid and (2) big mess at City Hall remain. VM Rama, Mabatid not minor critics.
+ February 08, 2021 SHOVE aside for now the issue of politicking. In a way, both Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella and Vice Mayor Michael Rama are politicking. They have been so engaged since they joined elective public service. For each policy or deed, they consider, consciously or not, its impact on votes.
Mike Rama called out in open session of the City Council Friday, January 5, for Edgar Labella to report back to City Hall (bringing not just his body but his body and soul no less) and lead hands-on the campaign against the pandemic. He stopped short of asking, Edgar, tell us how physically fit you are. Mike only said, You know your own self. You know what to do.
