not the two main ones that we ve just seen on screen, but some of the others. it s not perfect. no, but it s engaging, it really holds your attention. and also, i think that when you re.when you re making a little movie like that, and it s something that needs to grab the audience s attention and to punch through, i think a little bit of, you know, it s melodramatic, it s clearly overwrought, but then, that s partly in keeping with the genre. and i actually thought it was a fairly confident bit of film making, considering the complicated ideas that it s dealing with. i mean, i know it s got mixed reviews, but i ve seen it a couple of times now, and i think it s pretty solid. mm. i definitely think it s worth watching and it s absolutely in my category of enjoyed it so much more than i thought i was going to. excellent. and the landscape is just glorious, so. so, best out this week! this is the last time. i m not going to do this anymore. and i ve been flying the flag for this, 0k. so
jonathan, there s data behind it. you can look what happened on january 6th but look at the data from a poll that was released this week. 40% of republicans, 40% of republicans think violence against america s government is okay. 41% of independents believe violence against america s government is okay. 4-10. it s just absolutely horrifying. but that is where we are. nobody s being melodramatic here. nobody is overstating the facts. of course, those of us who feared the coming ill liberalism in this country, always accused of being melodramatic, it plays out in the numbers. just ten years ago the idea that 40% of either party would say violence against the federal government is okay would be unthinkable. that s a great example of the normalization of extremism.

in another strand, penelope cruz s character is trying to excavate a mass grave in her hometown from the civil war, so there are two stories. parallel mothers, parallel stories, personal and political, which sounds like a really fascinating combination. and if you think of the films of guillermo del toro, like the devil s backbone or pan s labyrinth, he s managed to do exactly that with the spanish civil war. here s the thing with this, it s beautifully designed, beautifully played a very well written script with great performances, wonderful score. and it sounds like a perfect match. the problem for me is that it s not so much parallel stories, it s tangential stories. you have the spanish civil war story, which kind of appears and then gets sidelined. you have the personal story, which is full of melodramatic contrivance which you re kind of meant to buy into because, hey, it serves the story. and then we move back to the spanish civil war
