Some Colchester High School students this coming school year will have the opportunity to travel to New York City and Paris thanks to two trips approved by the Colchester School
COLCHESTER â What does it mean to be a student musician in Vermont? This year has shown that among other things, it means sending handwritten notes to Secretary of Education Dan French, begging him to allow indoor music practice.
At the start of the 2020-21 school year, guidance from the Vermont Agency of Education disallowed singing and the practice of wind instruments indoors, in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.Â
But Colchester High School students did their own research about Coronavirus transmission, and with support from CHS Choral Director Melissa Towle, started a letter-writing campaign, trying to convince the AOE to update. their guidance.Â
Community forum mostly draws supporters, few dissenting voices
SOUTH KINGSTOWN â The School Building Committee held a community forum on Wednesday night to present its proposed facilities plan and take comments one final time before the special election.Â
On Tuesday, South Kingstown residents will finally answer the $85 million question of whether to stay at Columbia Street or relocate the high school to Curtis Corner. And while many community members have already cast their vote via mail or emergency ballot, itâs still anyoneâs guess as to which way the vote will go when the polls close.Â
For months, the school facilities plan has been hotly debated among community members, and as the special election date draws nearer and nearer, tensions seem to only be on the rise.Â
