ROCK RAPIDS—Lyon County is getting a sliver of a legal settlement tied to the national opioid crisis, although the payout details are still forthcoming.

January 19, 2021 Northwest Iowa We’re getting closer and closer to the day when we can all get vaccinated against COVID-19. The Iowa Department of Public Health says that we are in Phase 1A until February 1st. Phase 1A is long-term care residents and healthcare personnel with direct patient contact who are unable to telework, including those who work in inpatient, outpatient, or community settings, who provide services to patients or patient’s family members, or who handle infectious materials. Health care personnel are defined as paid and unpaid persons serving in health care settings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials. This includes EMTs, volunteers, hospice workers, and more.

N West Iowa prepares to get COVID vaccine

REGIONAL—N’West Iowa counties could receive initial shipments of COVID-19 vaccines for certain population groups in time for Christmas. On Friday, Dec. 11, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first emergency use authorization for a version of the vaccine jointly developed by pharmaceutical company Pfizer and biotechnology company BioNTech for people ages 16 and older. “The FDA’s authorization for emergency use of the first COVID-19 vaccine is a significant milestone in battling this devastating pandemic that has affected so many families in the United States and around the world,” said FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn in a statement.
