More than three years following the Parkland school shooting, the judge holds a status hearing. The prosecution is calling for the trial to begin as soon as possible. Defense Attorney Melissa McNeill says they need more time to assemble expert witnesses. Judge Elizabeth Scherer says she ll consider deadlines and issue an order in the next week. She set the next status hearing for June 30th.
Nikolas Cruz has confessed to opening fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018 killing 14 students and 3 staffers. The defense has offered a guilty plea in exchange for life in prison. The state is seeking the death penalty.
