Melissa’s senior send-off: unprecedented, even good times
Melissa Ma
As a Computer Science major pursuing a Master’s degree in engineering (all the relevance it has to this article), my place in the FSView & Florida Flambeau as first a News staff writer and Deputy News Editor was unprecedented, yet one of my most rewarding experiences at Florida State University, full stop.
My dream career has always been to become a writer it didn’t matter much to me where, but I preferred fiction before my foray into journalism at FSU. My childhood memories consist of reading Blue’s Clues books and writing Magic Tree House fanfiction, though it’d be another decade before I knew the term for it. I filled a dozen 1.5-inch binders with writing and character and plot sketches by the time I got to high school. I was a Writes-Upon-Request nerd who loved creative prompts like “Describe how you would react if you met an alien.”
Kayla’s senior send-off: my love letter to the FSView

My mom always said I was destined to be a reporter. When I was little, if there was an event in my house, I made sure I was the one to tell everyone. Of course, when your mom tells you what you should be, you immediately want to rebel, but I just couldn’t help it. No matter how much I tried, there was nothing I loved more than journalism. So, as I grew older, I came to terms with my news reporter destiny.
For a while, though, I wasn’t sure if newspaper writing was for me. Throughout the years, I found myself writing for all different types of publications: yearbooks, newspapers, online blogs and fashion magazines, trying to find what I liked best. I thought maybe by trying all of these I would find something I liked more than newspaper. But, the FSView & Florida Flambeau proved me wrong.
