BRIDGEWATER A year after COVID-19 was declared a national emergency and Massachusetts nursing homes closed to visitors, a Saturday vigil honored facility residents who died in isolation during the pandemic and celebrated survivors and their families. They truly are my personal heroes, organizer Melinda Gribko-Reyes, a geriatric social worker who lives in Bridgewater, said about the residents who have died and those in nursing homes who are still away from loved ones.
Some residents were already isolated before the pandemic, she said, but being closed off from family members and other residents has caused some to fall into depression, heartbreak and despair.
