Health Foundation of South Florida, Miami-Dade and Broward counties partner to launch locally produced, multi-media COVID vaccine education initiative

Share this article Share this article MIAMI, April 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/  The Health Foundation of South Florida, in partnership with Miami-Dade County and Broward County, today announced a major communications effort encouraging South Florida residents to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. The I Did It! campaign, a first-of-its-kind, cross-county effort spotlighting local people and leaders, is designed to reach some of the region s most vulnerable neighborhoods that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, in primarily Black and Latino communities.   The campaign, which will be activated across broadcast television, radio, outdoor, print, digital and social media, will be unveiled at a special event at 12:45 pm on April 21st at Florida Memorial University, which just recently was designated as a vaccination site. South Florida’s Black communities are trapped in a vicious cycle of inequality. Access to adequate food and health sources to sustain impoverished neighborhoods is close to nonexistent. For decades, Black people have been diagnosed with chronic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity and hypertension at a much higher rate than any other group. Though genetic predispositions do play a role in these diagnoses, it all boils down to two things – diet and lifestyle choices. At a time where preexisting conditions provide a deadly bull’s-eye for the coronavirus, food and pharmacy deserts have played a major role in the mortality rate among Black populations since the start of the pandemic. Both also contribute to the low vaccination rate in those same communities.
