Matchweek 12 preview: Melbourne City v Macarthur FC

Samuel Green 1615367114,1615367149 After hitting scorching-hot form while smashing Melbourne Victory for six, Melbourne City head into their first ever meeting with Macarthur FC on Friday looking for a fourth straight win. Patrick Kisnorbo’s side were forced to navigate their way out of a four-match losing streak but they have since found their rhythm, and it culminated in a thumping triumph over their crosstown rivals where they rallied to score five second half-goals last Saturday. That stretch of strong form has lifted the Bundoora club to fifth in the ladder ahead of their clash with the competition newcomers at AAMI Park. The Bulls have found consistency in their debut season, racking up 17 points from 11 matches to sit in second place in the standings.

Matchweek 10 preview: Western Sydney Wanderers v Melbourne City

Samuel Green 1614564976,1614564976 Western Sydney Wanderers are searching for a change in fortunes when they host a surging Melbourne City side on Tuesday. Carl Robinson’s Red and Black were stunned 3-2 at home against Adelaide United on Saturday night and face a 72-hour turnaround before they host Patrick Kisnorbo’s team at Bankwest Stadium. Wanderers remain fourth on the ladder despite only winning one of their last five matches and were boosted by the goalscoring return of former captain Mitchell Duke in the home reverse against Carl Veart’s Reds. City, on the other hand, are riding a high after marking their comeback from a three-week break with an impressive 3-2 win over Sydney FC. The competition’s 10th-placed team will have a close eye on the top six if they can make it back-to-back victories.

Maclaren s late winner earns City bragging rights

A-League.com.au 1610791652,1610836963 Jamie Maclaren struck a late winner as Melbourne City came from behind to beat Western United 2-1 in a pulsating derby encounter at AAMI Park on Saturday. The Socceroo striker s 80th A-League goal arrived in the 84th minute after Craig Noone had earlier cancelled out Ivan Vujica s maiden strike in the competition.  The result means City maintain a perfect five from five record over United having beaten their city rivals four times last campaign.  Patrick Kisnorbo s side move into second position, level on points with Central Coast Mariners, who entertain Western Sydney Wanderers on Tuesday. United await their first win of the campaign and play Perth Glory on January 23.

Matchweek 4 preview: Melbourne City v Western United

Four times Western United have tried, four times Melbourne City have walked away winners – but this newly-emerging Victorian feud will open a new chapter on Saturday. It was City’s players left celebrating on the Bankwest Stadium pitch at the final whistle on August 26 as the Green and Black’s maiden season ended in Semi-Final heartache following a 2-0 loss.

Signing news: Melbourne City extend Glover and Good

melbournecityfc.com.au 1610400825,1610401067 Melbourne City FC have announced the contract extensions of centre-back Curtis Good and Olyroos goalkeeper Tom Glover.  Both players were contracted until the end of this season but Good has now signed a three-year extension while Glover has extended for a further two seasons beyond 2020/21.  Good has made 72 appearances for City and scored two goals while Glover has appeared in 17 fixtures for the Club since becoming the number one goalkeeper midway through last season.  Good has consistently proven himself to be one of the A-League’s best defenders since returning to the Club from England prior to the 2018/19 season.
