Subscriber only Plans are under way to expand Mackay s successful Resources Centre of Excellence into stages two and three, with automation to be at the heart of its future development. RCOE general manager Steven Boxall said future stages would involve the duplication of the current centre to create an excellence precinct over the next 18 months to two years. Our second and third stages are looking like being projects in the mineral processing space and also advanced manufacturing, Mr Boxall said. What we re ultimately looking to achieve is some sort of vertically integrated business model. In a small pilot scale, we could actually be refining minerals on site.

Motorists travelling on the Peak Downs Highway can now take in spectacular views across the Pioneer Valley from the new rest area on Eton Range crossing.
Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said the Eton Range realignment project had improved road safety on the Peak Downs Highway.
âIt is vital for road safety that we have places for drivers to stop and take a break,â the Federal Transport Minister said.
âThe Eton Range rest area provides a great incentive to stop, with elevated views across to The Leap from about 250 metres above sea level.
âIt is a secure and easy-to-access area, with wheelchair-accessible paths and parking, CCTV, sheltered tables and a viewing platform.â
A community reference group has been established to help inform council on this signature project, and I am pleased to be a member of this group along with Deputy Mayor Councillor Karen May as Chair, Cr Belinda Hassan and other council staff. A concept master plan has been prepared to help guide staged development of the site and various building concepts for Stage 1 are being discussed with the Community Reference Group. Wider public consultation is expected to follow. This centrally located community hub will become an important venue for community interaction in the heart of the Northern Beaches. Work is also under way on a $340,000 upgrade to the Cone Street Park at Shoal Point. The upgrade will include the installation of new all-abilities pathways, a half-court facility, picnic shelter and additional shade tree plantings.
