In a year beset with bad news for much of the fashion retail industry, the UK experienced a drop in the number of newly appointed female retail CEOs in 2020. Headhunter firm Korn Ferry s annual CEO Tracker found that just eight female bosses were hired in the retail industry last year. This was down from the 11 hired in 2019, and the report found no material improvement in the number of female CEOs appointed in the last five years.
Lounge Underwear to double workforce at new global HQ
Lingerie and loungewear etailer Lounge Underwear is opening a new 54,000 sq ft global headquarters in Solihull, and plans to double its headcount over the next 12 months.
The three-storey space, which previously housed the US tech firm Oracle, is located at 1 Blythe Gate, and will further expand the brand’s presence at Blythe Valley Park. It already operates a distribution centre and offices in the area.
The project will be executed in two phases, costing a total of between £3m and £4m, which is being funded with cash reserves from the business, according to Lounge Underwear CEO Daniel Marsden. Phase one will be completed in late May or early June and includes a full re-fit of the ground and first floors. The top floor will be completed in phase two, as staff numbers grow.
