NILESÂ â The Lansing-based organizers of a proposed cannabis music festival that could draw thousands of people to the city this fall are planning a smaller, invite-only event on July 31 as a trial run.
They still hope to bring in well-known headliner bands across two days this fall, but the July event would tap a few local bands for country, jazz and contemporary tunes on just a single day. Up to 500 tickets would be sold or given, mostly through Niles cannabis businesses.
In both cases, marijuana products would be sold and consumed in specific areas. But alcohol wouldn t be permitted.
On Monday night, the Niles city council voted 6-2 to approve the smaller July festival, with members Georgia Boggs and William Weimer voting against it.
