The traditional and customary fabric of Ghana is such that almost every community or traditional area in the country has a festival it celebrates annually. Every festival in Ghana has its history and essence. The
Ayimagonu Festival celebrated by the people of Dorfor Traditional Area is no exception. This article seeks to unearth the history of the Ayimagonu Festival and how it got its name. The relevance of the Koklofu Deity in introducing the Ayimagonu Festival is equally stated herein.
Dorfor Traditional Area
Dͻfͻ or Dorfor is one of the thirteen (13) traditional areas in Tongu or Tͻƞu (Tongu). The rest are Fievie, Mafi, Sokpoe, Agave, Tefle, Ʋume (Vume), Bakpa, Meƒe (Mepe), Batͻ (Battor), Volo, Fodzoku and Tͻgͻme (Torgorme). In describing the 13 independent Tongu States, Amate (2017:102) wrote,
