Olympics 2020

Olympics 2020 July 27, 2021 Watching the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is exhilarating. It is a treat to watch athletes from all over the world competing for gold medals. At the same time, one feels sad about Pakistan’s representation in the Olympics – in a country of more than 200 million people, only 10 athletes have participated in the much-celebrated Olympics. It is important to mention here that the country’s prime minister was a professional cricketer himself. The national sport of our country is hockey; however, Pakistan’s hockey team didn’t even qualify for the event. What went wrong and who is responsible for the miserable condition of sports in the country? Our PM needs to address this and revamp all sports organisations.

Waiting for the vaccine

January 20, 2021 That the government didn’t place orders for the Covid-19 vaccine is a clear example of the government and the healthcare department’s incompetence. What are they waiting for? The procurement of the vaccine should be the government’s top priority. The Punjab health minister has said that the government will start the inoculation process once the trials are conducted. What are those trials that the government is planning to conduct at a time when the rest of the world is already administering vaccines to healthcare workers and the elderly? The nation is equally disappointed in Dr Faisal Sultan, the special assistant to prime minister on health, for the lack of urgency on his part. It is clear that the authorities failed to understand the severity of the circumstances. It is hoped that the authorities will procure the vaccine sooner and cut bureaucratic red tape.
