Land at the southern end of Telegraph Road in Oakville near Jefferson County is once again being eyed for a large new subdivision, but even with the historic Fine-Eiler House on the property torn down, some of the neighbors are starting a campaign against the new homes for reasons ranging from water runoff to density. In a videoconferenced public hearing Jan. 25 on the 26-acre, 53-home subdivision that developers McBride Homes and Oakville-based J.H. Berra are calling “Shadow Point,” the company addressed two of the primary reasons that a previous 57-home proposal at the site from homebuilder Pulte in 2014 was opposed by both St. Louis County planners and the Mehlville School District.

To the editor: Strong school systems are fundamental to the success of a community. Mehlville School District continues to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement with involvement from every stakeholder to build a culture of engagement and trust. In January 2019, a Facilities Steering Committee began work to identify necessary repairs and improvements for the facilities at each campus. On Jan. 21, 2021, the Mehlville School District Board of Education voted unanimously to place a zero-tax-rate-increase bond issue measure on the April 6, 2021 ballot. Proposition S facility updates will ensure that our schools are safe. Security entrances at each campus along with other necessary renovations and repairs will be possible with the passage of this zero-tax-increase bond issue.

Mehlville families can pick up food for winter break Tuesday

The Mehlville School District’s School Food and Nutrition Services staff are preparing additional free meals for all families with children 18 and under living in Mehlville School District. The meals are available at curbside grab-and-go meal distribution on Tuesday, Dec. 22. “We’re thankful to have the opportunity to make sure all students in our district have nutritious meals even when they’re not physically in school,” said Katie Gegg, Director of School Food and Nutrition Services, in a news release. Four meals per child will be distributed to families during the Dec. 22 distribution. Families should complete this form by the end of the day Monday, Dec. 21, to let Mehlville staff know how many meals to prepare for the following day. On Tuesdays, curbside grab-and-go meal distribution is at Mehlville High School (3200 Lemay Ferry Road) and Oakville High School (5557 Milburn Road) from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
