Meghna Group feasts on Meghna River Grabs over 241 acres of land Staff Correspondent 4th February, 2021 10:01:42 Meghna Group has grabbed 241.27 acres of land of the Meghna River, according to a report by the National River Conservation Commission (NRCC). Seven concerns of the group feasted on the land stretching over a two-km portion of the river by the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, hampering its flow, the report said. Of the occupied land, main buildings have been constructed on 84.77 acres while 5.5 acres have been used for building roads. Following a media report on the NRCC report, which has sparked widespread criticisms and an outcry, the authorities concerned have also moved to act as the river grabbing is prejudicial to a High Court order as well as the ecological balance.
