ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana A United Airlines flight from Mississippi was diverted to Alexandria International Airport in Louisiana on Wednesday after a report of a possible explosive device onboard.
While no explosives were found, two people were detained as persons of interest, the Rapides Parish Sheriff s Office said in a news release.
The plane remained on a tarmac, away from the terminal, for more than three hours after landing just before 12:30 p.m., news outlets reported. All passengers were removed.
The flight left Jackson, Mississippi, at 11:39 a.m. and was in route to Houston, officials said.
The sheriff office s bomb squad and the FBI responded to the airport, where passengers were held for several hours.

HOUSTON – A United flight headed to Houston was diverted to Alexandria International Airport after reports of a possible explosive device onboard, according to Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.
At 12:24 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a call of a reported inbound aircraft emergency, officials said.
The flight was en route from Jackson, Mississippi to Houston before being diverted to Louisiana, according to deputies. The aircraft landed safely and passengers were deplaned, deputies said.
According to The Associated Press, a passenger, Megann Cox, told KALB-TV they were mid-air when the flight crew announced they would be making an unexpected stop in Alexandria. She said the plane sat on the tarmac with the electricity off, including the air circulation.

Two suspects have been detained after reports of a possible bomb threat forced a United Airlines flight into an unscheduled landing, law enforcement officials have said.
The flight from Jackson, Mississippi, to Houston was diverted to Alexandria International Airport in Louisiana on Wednesday, following reports of an inbound aircraft emergency made to 911 dispatchers.
Rapides Parish Sheriff s Office said in a Facebook post that it was alerted at 12.24 p.m. to reports of a possible explosive onboard the flight.
Two persons of interest have since been detained in connection to the incident, deputies confirmed to KPRC-TV.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT/KALB) - A flight from Jackson made an emergency landing in Alexandria, Louisiana, after concerns of a possible explosive device onboard.
According to initial reports, information was received there was a possible explosive device onboard an inbound aircraft to Alexandria International Airport (AEX).
Officials with the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority confirm that the flight left Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport at 11:39 a.m.
The FBI said that all passengers have proceeded to their destinations and there is no threat to public safety.
