City weighs second COVID-19 economic recovery plan

As a COVID-19 response effort, the new plan would build off recovery measures approved in July of last year, including big spend events, main street markets, and free parking downtown, all of which are meant to keep money flowing and support local businesses through tougher economic times. Changes Being Looked At For The City s CIP

The city is looking at some changes to make the Community Improvement Plan easier to access. Megan Dokuchie is the city’s economic development officer and to showcase the program better. “We have identified the opportunity to enhance our marketing efforts next year and are proposing new signage for applicants to display at project locations,” explains Dokuchie. “We are looking to consider future candidate areas through this project.  These may include areas such as Railway Street or Highway 17 east as well as contemplation for a CIP which could include the whole municipality as the project area.” Under the program, companies or building owners in the Harbortown area, Keewatin and the old mill site can get grants to fix up the outside of their business or agency, including new signage, landscaping or architectural plans.
