Indonesia to develop new capital city after vaccine drive

Jakarta, Jan 24 : Indonesia remains committed to developing a new capital city in East Kalimantan province, which will start after the national Covid-19 vaccination program scheduled for completion in March 2022, according to a media report.
The country started its massive Covid-19 inoculation program on January 14 with health workers across the archipelago getting the main priority, after President Joko Widodo received the first shot of the vaccine developed by China s biopharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech on January 13, the Xinhua news agency report said.
The Indonesian government has set the schedule of national vaccination program in phases as the following: Phase 1 (January-April 2021) will target health workers, health worker assistants, support staff and residents.

Mr Amin Abdul Muntalib, Health Director for the Krachi East Municipality, has called on local assemblies to commit to the fight against malaria by prioritising the release of allocated funds.
He said although the assembly responded to requests for malaria support, he was unsure whether or not it was being drawn from the malaria allocation.
Mr Muntalib, who made the call at a policy meeting on malaria held at Dambai, said there was poor coordination towards managing the 0.5 percent of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) set aside for malaria programming.

The two policies would span 2020 and 2024 and the European Union provided financial support under the Ghana/ European Union Decentralisation Programme.
