日經新聞報導，儘管美中兩國在高科技領域的衝突加劇，但大陸對美國飼料用玉米需求很旺盛，也帶動載運玉米、大豆等穀物的巴拿馬型(panamax，承載噸數5~8萬噸)中型散裝船，貿易需求增加，租金也穩定成長，主要航路的日租金衝上3.7萬美元，近3個月來狂漲逾1倍，比去年同期成長160%，改寫2010年以來新高。而用來載運木材、紙漿等貨物的輕便型(handysize，承載噸數5萬噸以下) 船舶，日租金也漲到3.2萬美元，運價年暴增2.4倍。由於運送大陸所需玉米的巴拿馬型船供不應求，部分改用輕便型船運送，導致散裝船運力缺口更吃緊。值得留意的是，BDI（波羅的海綜合）指數近日拉回，13日下跌2.18%來至3228點；反映鐵礦砂、煤炭等原物料運費的BCI（波羅的海海峽型）指數重挫3.18%至3650點；BSI（波羅的海超輕便極限型船）指數小跌0.59%來到2865點。
