Apr 15, 2021 11:02:55 AM There has been an increase in rape cases during this pandemic, the Medical Services Pacific receives an average of four rape cases a day. In March alone, the non-governmental organisation received more than 30 referral cases of rape through its Sexual Offences Unit. Medical Services Pacific director Ashna Shaleen said cases of rape against women, girls, and children have increased during this pandemic. Shaleen said there is a need to create more awareness on rape and assault to allow more women, girls, and children to speak up. “It is very unfortunate Fiji has a high rate of violence against women, girls, and children. Also on child rape, this is an epidemic in its own right,” she said.
