DVIDS - News - South Korea military base receives Pfizer vaccines from DLA for DoD adolescents

14 The first shipment of minus 80-degrees Celsius Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines from Defense Logistics Agency Distribution arrived at U.S. Army Medical Materiel Center-Korea at Camp Carroll in Waegwan, South Korea, May 17 for Defense Department dependents on the peninsula. USAMMC-K received over 4,600 doses of the vaccine and vaccine accessory kits and began vaccinating 12-17-year-olds within 24 hours using U.S. Forces Korea’s inoculation priorities and the 65th Medical Command’s appointment program. “DLA Distribution Korea will continue to work closely with USAMMC-K and their key stakeholders, ensuring seamless delivery of every vaccine as everyone continues the fight against COVID-19,” said Army Lt. Col. Corinne McClellan, DLA Distribution Korea commander.

3 CAMP CARROLL, South Korea U.S. Army medical logisticians are working to ensure Soldiers on the Korean Peninsula have the latest and most effective medical devices available. Over the past three years, the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Agency and U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity have teamed up to execute numerous missions to modernize medical equipment sets and individual devices for Eighth Army medical units. Medical devices being replaced include X-ray machines, suction apparatus, surgical sterilizers and more. Units supported ranged from area support medical and ground ambulance companies to dental, optometry and veterinarian units. According to Jude Corpuz, a regional manager with USAMMDA, the devices had reached the end of their life cycle and could no longer be supported by medical maintenance depots or manufacturers.

3 CAMP CARROLL, South Korea Staff members at the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Center-Korea are doing their part to increase administrative efficiency and eliminate waste by embracing the Army’s Lean Six Sigma program. A total of 20 Korean nationals working at USAMMC-K recently completed training in Lean Six Sigma, or LSS, each earning their “Green Belt” certification under the program. The Green Belt signifies a professional who is well versed in the core to advanced elements of the LSS methodology, which teach also problem-solving for improving processes, therefore saving time and money while boosting the nation’s military readiness.
