Vietnam recruits volunteers for first phase of second COVID-19 vaccine

Friday, 12:00, 05/03/2021 VOV.VN - The Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC) unveiled on the morning of March 5 that they have begun the process of receiving registrations from volunteers to participate in the initial phase of clinical trials for the second domestically-produced COVID-19 vaccine known as Covivac. During the first phase of human trials, a total of 120 volunteers aged between 18 and 59 will be injected with two 0.5 ml doses of the vaccine 28 days apart. In addition, they will also receive a sum of VND3.6 million in order to cover their travel expenses to the site. In line with the schedule, volunteers will remain at the clinical trial area for a period of 24 hours after receiving their shots in order to allow them to be under strict health observations by the research team.

Among the total, 1,530 were locally infected, including 837 cases since January 27. A total 1,844 COVID-19 patients have recovered so far, and the death toll remains at 35. Among those still under treatment, 32 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, 50 twice and 100 thrice. By February 27 afternoon, 10 provinces and cities had gone through 14 consecutive days without new locally-infected cases of COVID-19.
