What is still unclear is whether that means the strike deadline has been extended to tomorrow or whether striking is even off the table. We really dont know. Both sides returned to the bargaining table about 1 00 this afternoon. After talking all night last night a federal mediator reported substantial progress but didnt elaborate. Reporter tom vacar joins us with the latest, tom. Reporter well there were a lot fewer public sparking flying today but i get the sense that both sides are still very far apart. The Mediation Service is doing a spectacular job coming with creative idea that is both sides will be able to live with and embrace. The package was 57 million. If you want to give us some ideas of how we can rearrange whats in there and still make it under 57 million were open to that. Reporter no word yet on a strike for tomorrow. Reporter here are the tentative agreements signed by all the parties involved dated today as this got done very early this morning. We got word around 3 00 this morning from the unions that this deal had been reached. You might remember this all stems from the disputed family medical leave act that bart management said was included in error during the last contract. It would have allowed bart employees to get up to six weeks of paid family medical leave, the bart board did not ratify that contract and thus the two sides went back to the negotiating table to resolve this, that is not in, more leave and how employees can use time off including sick leave and those and it expands bereavement leave policy to low paid time off for the grandchild or stepparent of a child or spouse or domestic partner and they will see employee break rooms at three stations, something unions have called for.
