MediaTek launched its latest chipset, the 6nm Dimensity 1200 Premium 5G in the market on 20 January. The Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company also announced the Dimensity 1100 5G SoC along with the launch. Aimed at providing better 5G experiences, both the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 and Dimensity 1100 5G smartphone chipsets come with AI support, a powerful camera and multimedia features. The Dimensity 1200 and Dimensity 1100 sport a integrated 5G modem and have been powered with MediaTek’s 5G ‘UltraSave’ technology to usher in power saving features.

To match MediaTek’s announcement about the launch of the new Dimensity 1200 flagship 5G smartphone chipset, Realme has announced that it will be one of the first brands to introduce a smartphone with the SoC. The smartphone firm has said that new models and even flagships powered by the premium 5G chipsets are going to hit the market in 2021. Powered by the new Dimensity 1200 SoC, the phones will offer AI support, great photography features along with high quality video streaming and game playing ability.

Redmi may launch its first gaming smartphone that could be the maiden handset from the Xiaomi sub-brand to use the newly launched MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC, as per a tipster. The news comes as several OEMs, including Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and Realme have announced that they will be releasing phones powered by the new SoC. The news builds on a previous development in which Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing hinted that the Redmi K30 Extreme successor will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC, that is designed on a 6nm architecture.

Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi is well-known for its budget offerings, but it appears that the company will enter the gaming smartphone segment with a new device this year. Redmi general manager Lu Weibing in a post on the Chinese micro-blogging platform Weibo has revealed that the Redmi gaming handset would come at a price that cannot be refused, although its exact details remain unclear, at the moment. Additionally, the company executive has announced that a new Redmi device would pack the latest MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC which further features an integrated 5G modem. It is unclear whether this MediaTek-powered handset and Redmi’s aforementioned first gaming phone are the same devices.

MediaTek has announced two new chipsets in its Dimensity lineup. The MediaTek Dimensity 1100 and 1200 are 5G chips based on the latest 6nm architecture as compared to the 7nm process used on previous MediaTek Dimensity chips.
MediaTek claims that the new 6nm chips will come with “unrivalled AI, camera, and multimedia features for powerful 5G experiences.” Realme will be among the first OEMs to launch a phone with the new Dimensity 1200 chip, with Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo set to follow suit.
