“Thinning” is normally an outdoor market which aims to increase public awareness about the problems that Japanese mountains currently face and also to help protect the country’s forests. The name refers to the ecological practice of forest thinning and the timber that can be used from this process. This year’s market will be held under the theme of “Thinking of Mountains,” and will feature 37 manufacturers, apparel brands, outdoor goods, crafts, miscellaneous goods, and workshops. The market will be held at the Media Stage on the first floor of Hakata Hankyu (April 1 to April 6), and will include an exhibition of original drawings by picture book author Miroko Machiko.

This year’s theme for Valentine’s Day at Hakata Hankyu is “For My Sweet Time,” and features an extraordinary collection of fine and fun chocolates from around the world.
