London-listed Gem Diamonds has recovered a 212.49 ct Type II white diamond from its 70%-owned Letšeng mine, in Lesotho.
This is the sixth diamond weighing more than 100 ct to be recovered at the mine this year.
ASX-listed Lucapa Diamond Company and its Lulo alluvial mine partners Endiama and Rosas and Petalas have announced the recovery of a 195 ct Type IIa diamond from the Lulo mine, in Angola. The diamond is the sixth-largest to be recovered from the Lulo alluvial operations since mining started in 2015.
An employee was killed in a blasting incident at Harmony Gold Mining's Phakisa mine on Tuesday afternoon. All blasting operations have been temporarily suspended. The relevant authorities have been informed and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, labour representatives and mine management will investigate the cause of the incident.
Platinum group metals (PGM) and chrome concentrate producer Tharisa has warned that its earnings per share (EPS) and headline earnings per share (HEPS) are likely to be up to 29% lower year-on-year for the financial year ended March 31, as a result of a 40% decrease in PGM price and increased cost pressures. EPS are expected to be between 22.4% to 28.2% lower year-on-year at between $0.125 and $0.135, while HEPS are expected to be between 23.3% and 29% lower year-on-year at between $0.125 and $0.135.
JSE-listed chrome producer Merafe Resources has advised that the quarterly European Ferrochrome Benchmark (EUBM) price will be discontinued with effect from June. The company will, therefore, no longer publish the EUBM price on the JSE news service.
