Updates. Thank you for joining us tonight. Our other top story, the cold fire continues to grow. The fire has now burned 4600 acres. Thats up from 4,000 earlier. Its now 10 contained. From wi reporter its a battle waged in the deep country of yolo county. Mens and machines versus stubborn flames in the footprint of another fire that burned through here two years ago. Its good. Were able to use some of the dozer line and some of the lines we used during that fire. Reporter the cold fire, as they now call it, broke out yesterday, forcing the evacuations of homes, as well as campgrounds below the lake. From what those campers left behind, its clear they bailed in a hur hurry. One showed us photos of the flames that turned her and her husband into unwilling daredevils. The flames were down to the road. I said were going to go right through this . And we did. And yet some people stayed behind. You can still see the smoke, but they had the backfire up the hill. Warm. Appalachian power crews were attacking the outages. We found this truck on deyerle road this afternoon. But with so many limbs down, so many power lines to repair, the utility is still assessing how long its going to take to get everyone back on line. Here along Williamson Road the power is still out. Power has notified residents in the area that their power should be restored tonight. Live in roanoke joe dashiell wdbj7 the number of people without power in henry county is going down but it may take days to complete. Officials say they are now working to restore power to fifteen hundred people. The community of sandy level is one of the affected areas. Winds blew over an old gas station sign at the corner of axton and morgan ford road. Trees are still laying on power lines and a family was home last night when the tree fell. Its being caught up around that low which will be here wednesday into thursday. At least we think so. Its been a slow, slow mover. Not much of a delta breeze. Its been nonexistent for a long time. Been a busy morning from north to south. It sure has. We do have a lot of slow traffic out there, steve. Well start off with a look at some of these commutes with southbound 101 there is a crash near the marinwood exit. This morning it will be slower as you drive through the area. In solano county, we have very slow traffic in vacaville and fair field because of an earlier problem. Westbound 580 slow, altamont pass. Pleasanton to fremont and then san jose northbound 101 already slow from north of 280 all the way up into Mountain View. We had an early problem on 101 that caused thebackup. Bay bridge toll plaza is backed up for a 20minute delay. N
At about 9 30. The driver of the car that he hit was not seriously hurt. But a few seconds later he crashed into eight other vehicles. This all started with a traffic stop. The suspect did not want to stop and took off. Because of the speeds, the condition, the officers decided to cancel the chase. They werent chasing for very long. This was like a bomb or something. The cops are coming. I said everythings going to be okay. As soon as i mention the cops, he started freaking out. He said, the cops. He tried to get out. I told him not to move. Police have yet to say what the initial Traffic Violation was. Although there was no confirmation on this as of yet, there is word that there was a gun found inside the suspects vehicle. Rarely is it narrated in a way where people are constantly having to live in many of our communities in this country in war zones. That are actually assaulting the psychology, the emotion, and the spirit of young people and families far beyond just a physical toll. I think the daily impact, at least how we understand it, particularly here in the way area, is very much around trauma. We just really quickly, 600 shootings have happened in the bay area averaged over the last 20 years. City of oakland, im talking about specifically the city of oakland, 120 killings or so average. You can just imagine the concentric circles of trauma, of families that have had to deal with gunrelated hop sides, not even speaking about suicides.
